KAVACH (Quant PPH – A Low Cost PPH Monitoring Diaper)

KAVACH is a diaper with a built-in strip that turns green, yellow, or red to flag dangerous post-birth bleeding early, since doctors often underestimate blood loss by eye.

Outcome Metrics

  • Estimated Dev Cost: Base version ~₹165–₹186 per unit (reagent + diaper + nitrocellulose strips + indicator strips); future electronic version adds ~₹1,900–₹3,100 in sensor/connectivity hardware
  • Increase in early detection of postpartum haemorrhage (PPH)
  • Improvement in accuracy of postpartum blood loss assessment
  • Reduction in underestimation of blood loss by visual assessment
  • Reduction in time required to identify dangerous bleeding
  • Improvement in timely clinical intervention and escalation of care
  • Reduction in severe maternal complications related to delayed PPH detection
  • Detection accuracy, response time, usability, and clinician satisfaction rates
